Sanillés is a project that was created with the purpose of recovering a derelict old spa resort for use as a center for the arts, healing and education within an ecologic space of local and sustainable development. Its intention is to be of service to physical and spiritual health, the arts and nature.
The restoration of Sanillés shows a meticulous respect for traditional architecture as well as ecological sustainability criteria. Beyond the restoration of an architectural heritage site, there is the initiative to establish a sustainable and permanent activity in Sanillés based on:
- The recovery of traditional activities (organic horticulture, herb garden, cooking with healthy foods etc)
- The practice of yoga, meditation, healing and other practices that help to live in harmony with nature
- The hosting of courses and seminars
- Promotion of the arts and crafts
- Organization of ecology and reforestation programmes.

Ongoing renovation
So far the side buildings have been renovated. There is now a small bar and restaurant, together with an apartment and living quarters for visitors and members. In the main building a there are two salons for events and a few rooms which have been conditioned for members and volunteers.
Main Building Flood
The main building suffered a flood when it was closed down in the nineties. This caused slight subsidence in the north east corner and extensive remedial and reinforcement work was carried out to secure the structure. As a result of the flood most cielings had to be removed to inspect the wooden beams, many of which were found to be infected with woodworm in the 4rd floor, which has been cleared so that all beams can be replaced in due time.
